The Nikon D5000 lens comes with its exclusive ‘EXPEED’ image processing system. This uses cutting edge technology to enable it to process a large amount of data that gets generated by the 12.3 megapixel sensor. This image processing system has excellent resolution, brilliant colour and tonal scale, while also providing quick processing of its advanced imaging functions like Face Detection and Scene Recognition.

Scene Modes lets users capture excellent shots in various situations with point and shoot ease. The Nikon D5000 DSLR has 19 different scene modes to do this. All these modes carry out various functions like white balance, active D-lighting, adjusting exposure and Picture Control settings. The mode dial lets you use six most often used modes. The D5000 displays a sample photograph of each mode when selected, to help identify the best mode. Examples of additionally added modes to the latest release are Blossom, autumn colors, Food, Candlelight, Silhouette, High key, Low key and even Pet Portrait!

The Active D-Lighting function is included in the Nikon D5000 lens, which greatly improves detail when capturing photographs in shadows as well as enhancing high contrast scenes. The D-Lighting system uses a 420 pixel sensor to analyse a scene and adjust exposure accordingly in order to capture images close to what the human eye sees. Up to six different D-Lighting settings are available, which are extra high, High, Normal, Low, Auto and Off. This also comes with a mode that lets you shoot the same image with D-Lighting as well as without.

Some of the features for the Nikon D5000 lens are Scene Recognition System with Face Detection System, image sensor, Live View shooting and movie clips.

For the scene recognition system with face detection system, the D5000 uses a 420-pixel sensor to analyse the colour and illumination across the scene a mere milliseconds prior to exposure. This enables a better scene content and much improved exposure for high image quality, as well as enhancing autofocus performance. The Nikon D5000 detects human faces using its ‘Face Detection’ System in a similar fashion.

With 12.3 megapixels, the Nikon D5000 lens produces a high resolution image with some brilliant enlarging capability. It has a high signal-to-noise ratio, which means images can be captured with low noise even if shooting at a high ISO setting.

The Live View shooting is said to be very versatile, which is further helped by the Vari-angle monitor that can be accessed with one-touch ease via a ‘Live View’ button. The addition of subject tracking has improved ‘Autofocus’ with Live by a great deal. In addition to this, there are three more modes that come with the D500, which are ‘face priority Autofocus’ for automatically detecting anything up to five faces in a scene, whilst focusing more sharply on the closest face, a ‘wide area Autofocus for large areas and optimal shooting and normal area Autofocus for focusing accuracy and good results with a tripod.

For amateur yet ambitious photographers, the release of the Nikon D5000 lens in April 2009 was greeted with great enthusiasm. Although it has quite a different user interface to its previous versions, the D300 and D700, the D5000 has been recognized as an extremely good DSLR for entry level users.

DSLR is an acronym for ‘Digital Single Lens Reflex’ and the term refers to any cameras that are predominantly 35 mm format. The basics of a DSLR camera is that the mirror reflects the light that comes through the lens at an upward 90 degree angle, which is reflected by what is known as a pentaprism that corrects the image from the photographer””s perspective. While capturing a photograph, a fast acting mirror assembly along with 2 shutters working just as quick is what is essentially known as a ‘viewfinder blackout’ which is of great importance, especially for action photography. This viewfinder blackout process is automatic over a matter of milliseconds, and can be done up to 10 times a second, depending on requirements.

Both the Nikon D300 and the D90 were very popular cameras, as the image quality was very good. The Nikon D5000 lens is not only available at a better price, but features video functionality too.

Some examples of the features which are favorable for users are; its good handling, the 4 frames per second frame rate, the bracketing and the swivel LCD, although the Auto Exposure is still limited to 3 shots.

The swivel LCD has become a big plus for all users as it is often felt to be a ‘requirement’ for cameras featuring live view. It is of the opinion that the sensor of a Nikon D5000 lens is very closely comparable to the popular D300 when it comes to image quality. Lens selection is especially important now, as good quality zooms tend to cost a lot more D5000. The ISO noise on the D5000 is said to be very good up to 800, but also images at 1600 are good enough to use.

For keen Photographers, the Nikon D80 was extremely popular and took some beating. The long awaited Nikon D5000 lens did just that and was certainly worth waiting for, especially with the value for money it brought with the release.

The important changes were gladly welcomed by consumers, one of the most important being the switch to a sensor and the flip-down and swivel LCD screen, as well as the improvements upon the AF system in comparison to the D90.

The Nikon D5000 lens comes in two configurations – one with body only and one with a kit with the VR lens. It is said to be only a matter of time before a dual-lens kit with additional lens is introduced. The D5000 is made of polycarbonate over stainless steel and weighs just over 21 ounces.

Direct access buttons are being eliminated more and more nowadays, with a preference for the control layout being available on an interactive display on screen. Using the dial and selector, the user is able to adjust aperture, shutter speed, image size, white balance, ISO sensitivity, focus mode, autofocus area, exposure bracketing, picture Control, D-Lighting, exposure, flash mode and the overall quality. The LCD has been known however, to be difficult to see in sunlight, hence making settings changes awkward.

The other good thing is that for shooting movie clips, there isn’t a dedicated mode so you can stop and start recording while using Live View mode. Although this doesn’t have continuous autofocus, it can easily be initiated during recording.
